Charlotte, North Carolina – The BMCC women’s volleyball program’s storybook 2022 season added another major accomplishment to its arsenal as sophomore Josanne Lewis (Rochester, Minnesota) became the first Panther player in 18 years to be selected to the NJCAA Division III Women’s All-America Team. Lewis was named to the NJCAA All-America Second Team and is the first player to grab the honor since Iva Skoch in 2004.

The Rochester, Minnesota native put together one of the greatest individual seasons in BMCC women’s volleyball history once she arrived in downtown Manhattan in August. Lewis helped the Panthers women’s volleyball program reach program marks not seen in a decade, including knocking off six-time defending CUNYAC CC Champion Queensborough Community College for BMCC’s first conference championship since 2006 and its 11th in program history. The Panthers got out of the gate quickly with a program-best eight-game winning streak finishing the season with a 17-6 overall record, matching the win total from the 2006 season. She also helped BMCC kick off the season with a program-best eight-game winning streak, including ending CUNYAC power Queensborough Community College’s 52-game conference winning streak while notching the second seed in the 2022 Region 15 Tournament, the school’s highest in almost a decade.

Lewis’s thunderous right-hand swing terrorized opponents as she recorded a team-best 21 double-digit kill games, including two 30-kill performances to go along with a team-high 18 double-doubles. She would finish the 2022 campaign as the Program’s single-season and all-time leader in kills with 397. In the final double dual of the season, Lewis surpassed Yolireisi Pichardo‘s previous single-season record of 265 kills, belting 26 kills and 23 kills against Kingsborough Community College and Queensborough Community College to lead the Panthers to their first regular season title since 2008. BMCC also finished the season with a perfect 8-0 League record.
She continued to rewrite the history books in the postseason, registering a new single-game record and career-high 38 kills in a four-set victory over Kingsborough C.C. in the Region 15 quarterfinals. Two days later, she became the program’s all-time leader in kills with a game-high 15 in the Region 15 semifinals against Dutchess C.C., surpassing Stela Vaso‘s mark of 355 as the program’s all-time leader in kills.
Lewis was rewarded for her efforts with numerous postseason season awards, including the 2022 NJCAA Region XV Player of the Year and CUNYAC CC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year. She also earned NJCAA All-Region First Team honors. She belted a game-high 25 kills and put up 18 digs in the semifinals against Hostos C.C. and then posted a game-high 14 kills to go along with 14 digs in the Championship final against Queensborough to also grabbing the 2022 CUNYAC CC Women’s Volleyball Championship MVP.

Lewis also concluded the 2022 season second in the country in kills per set with 5.22 while also getting it done on the backend with 320 digs which were third-most in a single season and fourth all-time.
