Lisbon David Anderson High School Junior Tate Wallen was recently recognized during the Student Spotlight portion of the November Board of Education meeting. Tate described aspects of two-color 3D printing, which is the focus of his independent project for his STEM class at DAHS. Tate, who is also enrolled in the precision machining program at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, became interested in two-color 3D printing after earning a Master Badge in maintenance and troubleshooting for FDM 3D printing from Youngstown State University this past summer. The state-mandated program focused on social and behavioral health for students is proving its worth, with 72 Lisbon students able to attend a college basketball game as part of a behavioral incentive.
The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program (PBIS) is used by districts throughout the county.
Students from other schools were also offered the opportunity to view a recent Youngstown State University men’s basketball game free of charge, as long as they received no behavioral demerits.
Crestview schools Superintendent Daniel Hill was excited about the opportunity for Crestview students as well.
“Besides seeing a men’s basketball game live they also were able to meet and talk to some of the players. This was a great day for some kids who would probably never be able to attend a game again,” Lisbon Superintendent Joseph Siefke said.
In other business, the Lisbon Board of Education approved the following during the meeting:
— Various NEOLA policy revisions. There were several revisions made during the meeting. The policies are available on the district’s website.
— Snow plowing and salting services with Hayes Lawn Care for the 2022-23 season.
— The Building Leadership Teams were approved for both buildings for the year.
— Colleen vanLeeuwen was given a one year limited contract to complete the year for a teacher who is taking a leave of absence.
— An athletic supplemental contract was approved for John Bryan to be the junior high girls basketball coach for the 2022-23 school year.
— A contract for athletic training services for the 2022-23 winter sports season was offered to Stephanie Myers.
— The following donations were recognized at the meeting: new gym equipment from John Graft of Oasis Center for Rehabilitation; anonymous donor through the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church for benefit of the students at DAHS – $1,250 to “Making a Difference Everyday Fund,” the students at McKinley School to “Make a Difference Fund,” and $1,250 each toward both the DAHS’ Principal Fund and McKinley’s Principal Fund; $100 donation from the American Legion John Welsh Post 275 to McKinley Elementary to go towards the Veterans Day Breakfast
–Wendy Meek, a graduate from Lisbon, David Anderson High School, presented “In God We Trust” Picture Frame. In 1954 President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed this as the National Motto, Meek felt that it was something that needed to be displayed in all schools; therefore, she donated the framed item along with the History of the Motto to the District to be displayed in a prominent place.
The next meeting was set for Dec. 15.
