WEST VILLAGE, NY — Much has been made over Mayor Eric Adams receiving his first paycheck in cryptocurrency, but now he has a new Lower Manhattan bar to spend it in as a digital money bar recently opened in the West Village.
Pubkey opened at 85 Washington Pl., near Sixth Avenue, in the former home of a bar called Formerly Crow’s.
The new watering hole describes itself as a Bitcoin bar, despite the fact that Bitcoin is the one cryptocurrency it doesn’t accept as payment. Pubkey also accepts cash and credit or debit cards.
The owners of the new bar “want to use the space to host community events for locals who still believe in bitcoin, in spite of recent setbacks,” reads an article by Eater NY, which recently spent a night at Pubkey.
The menu does not have anything over $21, and includes different types of hot dogs, sandwiches, burgers, chicken wings, and more.
Greg Preochel is in charge of the kitchen, who trained at Eleven Madison Park, reported Eater NY.
Its website design is made of old-school video game graphics and also has an online shop offering a $65 hoodie, a $30 t-shirt and a $5 lighter.
It is open Monday to Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Thursday to Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 a.m. If you’re looking for a crypto-bought drink on Sunday, it’s open noon to 2 a.m.
You can find out more about Pubkey on its website.
